I want to share my top 8 ways to be comfortable on your flight so that you can enjoy your flight even more!

You can’t wait to get to your destination, but why not be as comfortable as you can on your flight while you’re en route to get there!

I know the feeling… You’re so excited to arrive, but it’s the getting there that can be challenging sometimes.

So, let’s make your next flight more enjoyable and comfortable with my top 8 ways to be comfortable on your flight!

My top 8 tips to make your flight more enjoyable & comfortable!

An airplane with people sitting comfortably enjoying their flight.

1. Even if I am going somewhere tropical, I still bring these!

Tips to be comfortable on a flight- bring socks!

It might sound funny, but remember how cold it can be on an airplane… 🥶

Well, I always pack a pair of socks! 🧦

Maybe you are going somewhere that you don’t really need socks, but if you pack 1 pair for the plane ride there and back you will have a more comfortable plane ride!

The socks can stop your feet from feeling cold from the airplane floors and air conditioning.

You can take off your shoes and nap, or put your feet on the ground without them getting dirty.

This way your bare feet are not touching the floors; we all know the airplane floors are not sparkling clean anyways…

I even pack a small plastic bag, and put my dirty socks into the bag as I land, then throw on my flip flops! 🩴

You can just put your socks in the dirty laundry when you can. This way your feet stay clean and you are ready for your flip flops at the beach!

Speaking of the beach, feel free to read this blog about things to bring to the beach to make sure you have an awesome time! Top 9 things to bring to the beach!

I have a pair of super soft and comfy socks that are great if you’re very cold.

The pair of socks on the right are fun vacation-themed socks!  One sock says: If you can read this.  The other sock says: I’m on vacation, and there’s a palm tree on it.

2. This will help you legally!

Legally?  You ask… well, often when you are on a flight, the flight attendants will pass out some immigration or declaration forms.

So, packing a pen, 🖊️ or even 2 pens (just in case 1 doesn’t work) will stop you from being that person who is asking people around you to borrow a pen.  You end up waiting and waiting… then your forms are possibly not even filled out by the time you land!

This can be stressful and definitely not relaxing… trying to fill out the forms on top of your suitcase as the line moves in the airport with someone’s pen.

If you pack your own pen, you can conveniently and comfortably fill out all of your forms before you land.  You will feel relaxed and prepared when you arrive at the airport!

I put my pen in the front pocket of my carry-on bag or purse so it is easy to access.

*Tip- I make sure that the pen is not in the carry-on bag that I put in the overhead compartments.  That is always a pain to get to…

* Another tip- put your pen in a ziploc bag. This way in case the pressure from the flight causes the pen to explode,🎆  it will only explode in the bag, not on your packed clothing or your wallet!

If you don’t have a ziploc bag, you can use an envelope or even folded paper can help prevent any ink stains.

3. It's worth the small investment!

A woman who is comfortable and enjoying a flight after following tips from this blog.

I splurged years ago and bought an airplane seat blanket!

SO worth it!

Maybe you are asking what is the difference between a regular blanket and an airplane seat blanket.

Well there are quite a few differences. An airplane seat blanket:

  • fits the shape and size of most airplane seats. This is important because your blanket doesn’t annoy your neighbours by going onto their seat or body.
  • is long and covers you from your neck to your toes.  Some regular blankets are too square and short.  These airplane seat blankets are long rectangles.  They are perfect for you to keep to your own seat. They will also keep your body comfortable and warm!
  • has awesome feet pockets! YES, feet pockets.  There are 2 sewn in open pockets at the bottom of the blanket for your feet.  This way they stay warm all around!  Your feet will be off of the ground and completely covered!
  • This airplane seat blanket is so soft, plush, comfortable, and WARM!

4. Sorry, I couldn't hear you!

We have all been on that fight with crying children, loud talkers, arguing couples, and that person playing video games or music loud, and other noises that can disturb your peace.

So, to make your flight more comfortable and enjoyable you can pack these. They are so small that they won’t take up any space or weight in your luggage either!

Ear plugs or even noise cancelling headphones can be helpful to let you get in a little nap before the beach or your dinner!

One note of caution, there are times when the flight crew do not recommend wearing ear plugs, such as when the plane is taking off and landing.

When not taking off or landing, these ear plugs help you to get some sleep, catch up on your reading, or get your work done comfortably and peacefully before you land.

You can buy reusable ear plugs, so that you don’t have to keep throwing them out after 1 use.  This pack of ear plugs has 8 pieces in total, and you can order them in different sizes.

5. It can also be a breath freshener!

I always pack some mints or candies for every flight.

I don’t know about you, but my ears pop when we are taking off and landing.  If you have a hard candy or mint, it can help to prevent your ears from popping as much.

If you don’t have mints or hard candies, some people chew gum.

Personally, I find that gum doesn’t work as well, but my ears seems to be more sensitive than many other people’s ears.

My personal choice is Life Savers, not because of the name! lol!  I choose them because there are a variety of flavours, including mints.

I usually just buy a big bag, this way if I have a connecting flights I am covered.

If you think about it, it could be 8 times that you are landing and taking off in total!  If you have connecting flights in both directions, that is a lot of ups and downs.

*Plus, you can share some with your neighbours on the flight.😊  This can help freshen your breathe, or even the breathe of your airplane neighbour.

Lifesavers candy used on a flight to be more comfortable during take off and landing.

6. Keep your neck comfortable & happy!

This is another must for me!

A travel pillow! It can be helpful, so you don’t end up sleeping on your neighbour’s shoulder. 😴 lol!

This travel pillow actually is a set with ear plugs and an eye mask for sleeping. There is even a a little carrying pouch for it all that is compact.

If you don’t have a travel pillow, or don’t want to pack one because of luggage space I completely get that too.

You can buy an inflatable travel pillow, which you just take the air out of when you are done and put it back in your carry-on bag.

There is another smart option.  You can get this Travel Neck Pillow that you fill with clothing.

This is great if you need to pack more clothing that you can’t fit in your luggage.  It will also pack up very small when you wear the clothing.  You could pack a sweater, socks, a sarong, or anything else that you wanted inside of this neck pillow.

If you really don’t want to bring a travel pillow, but still want to sleep you can use other things.

Here are some other things that I have used in the past before I bought a travel pillow.

I have used:

  • a sweater or cardigan
  • a shawl
  • a beach towel
  • a scarf
  • a sarong
  • a blanket

They can all be folded up or rolled to form a pillow.  This can make you more comfortable while you rest or sleep.

More importantly, when you wake up, your neck will be less sore than if you slept with a crooked neck for most of the flight.

Your neck will thank you later! 😉

Tips to be comfortable on a flight- bring a travel pillow

7. Be hands free on the plane!

This Cell Phone mount for the plane is great because so many airlines are changing to using your own device with their internet.

Although some airlines have a cell phone rest, most don’t at this time. Also, if there is turbulence it could fall off of the rest.

With this Cell Phone mount for the plane you can relax and watch a movie or scroll online without having to switch hands because your hands are soar from holding your cell phone for so long.

It latches onto the tray table and can rotate either way with strong clamps to hold your phone securely.

This way you can sit back and watch a movie with your travel pillow!

8. Keep from being bored

Now this one will be different for many people- bring something to do.

Maybe you bring playing cards to play a card game, or a book to read.

Maybe you bring work to finish, or go through your phone and look at all of those great memories.

On past flights, I have used the time to look through my cell phone that was full.  I had the time to delete old photos that I didn’t want; delete screenshots that I no longer needed; and get rid of documents that I didn’t need anymore in my download section.

Maybe you enjoy journalling or writing, you could write or finish that project you’ve been working on.

I have made some travel books. I have created an activity book, word search books, a colouring book, a travel journal book & travel planner for you to be entertained while you travel! They have travel-themed topics as well! Enjoy!

If you’re not sure which is better for you- the Travel Journal or Travel Planner & Organizer – check out 19 Ways to Use a Travel Journal.

When I’m not using an activity book or my travel journal, I use the time to go through all the sections of my purse and organize it.

I know that there are airplane movies and shows, but I have had an experience where the speakers were not working. There were no empty seats, so I couldn’t listen to the audio.

Sometimes you’re just not interested in the shows and movies that they are offering, or maybe you’ve already seen them.

It’s always good to bring a back up activity book to help the time to go by quickly and to enjoy your flight more.
