If you’re going to Sayulita, the beachfront is definitely the place to be!!
This is a Sayulita beachfront hotel review that I stayed at.
If you’re not sure where Sayulita is, it’s in the state of Nayarit, Mexico.
A little bit about Sayulita. Think small hippie surfer laid-back town.
Tourism has been growing here in the past 10 years though… so it’s been getting busier.
Sayulita is actually a Pueblo Magico, which makes it special!
If you’re not sure what a Pueblo Magico is, check out my Guide to Pueblos Magicos in Mexico.
There are quite a few interesting hotel options in Sayulita. Here is 1 hotel option for you.
The hotel that I recently stayed at was called Hotel Vista Oceana. It is a smaller hotel with that has been around for 10 years.
It has had the same owner for the past 5 to 6 years, Dave and Courtney.
I interviewed Azul, a woman who speaks both English and Spanish and works the reception area of the hotel who shared some details about the hotel with me.
This hotel is literally beach front. When you look out the front, you see the beach, palm tree, vendors, sand, and of course that beautiful sunset!
The address of the hotel is Calle Marlin 17-18-A in Centro. Calle means street, and centro means downtown.
It is the last building on the right side of the road if you’re walking towards the ocean.
As Sayulita is a small town, you can also walk to the downtown centre square in about 3 minutes, or less. Depending upon how chill you are… 🙂
To enter this hotel, the entrance is on the side. There is a black set of metal stairs that go over the back of the restaurant.
The door is locked at the top, but there is a bell, a number to call, or you can just say ‘hello’ as the reception area is just around the corner.
Someone will come and let you in to check in.
It’s not a luxury hotel, nor is it rustic.
It’s a decently-priced hotel in a good location- beachfront!
It’s in a happening area with restaurants, bars, surf board rentals, and more right by the hotel.
It is a 2-floor hotel with a restaurant below on the main floor.
It’s laid back smaller hotel. They have front desk staff that speak both Spanish and English.
There is a roof top terrace that is opened from 8:00am to 10:00pm.
Unless you rent the penthouse at the top, then you can access the rooftop at any time. They just ask that you don’t have loud speakers late at night.
You need to be able to go up a flight of stairs to enter this hotel, as there is no accessible entrance or elevator. As well to reach the second floor with the penthouses and roof top terrace, as there is not elevator.
There are about 10 stairs to enter the hotel.
It is on a corner which is nice for the view.
There are only 10 rooms in this hotel. 2 of the rooms have bunk beds.
4 of them are standard rooms with 1 queen size bed.
2 rooms have balconies that face the ocean.
Then there are 2 pent house rooms on the top floor. One of the pent house rooms has a kitchen.
All of the rooms are on the main floor, except for the penthouse rooms. They are on the top floor with the roof top terrace.
Obviously the roof top terrace is a definite bonus! It has couches, tables, hammocks and lounging areas with a great view!
Did I mention the view! lol! Watching the sun rise or set from the terrace is so lovely!
If you’re in the penthouse, you have big sliding glass doors that enter onto the roof top terrace too!
There is free coffee every morning.
There are air conditioners, fans, and televisions in all of the rooms.
There is also a communal fridge by the reception that anyone can put their leftovers or any food or medication in.
Some of the rooms with balconies and a penthouse also have their own fridge too.
There is a roof top terrace that is opened from 8:00am to 10:00pm.
One of the penthouses also has a complete kitchen too!
They keep their front entrance locked at all times for security
Yes, and no.
It depends. The wifi gets a 9/10 for me.
I was able to write blogs, and teach online using videos while staying there.
So, it’s gets a yes, because the wifi is pretty good. I noticed good wifi from my room, as well as the rooftop terrace.
There is a separate wifi for the rooftop terrace.
It gets a ‘no’ because it can be noisy at times, so it depends upon your type or work and your timing of your work.
For example, there is a salsa night on Mondays at the bar across the road. If you like salsa, you learn more about this bar at 15 Must-Try Unique Experiences in Sayulita!
It’s a lot of fun, but if you’re trying to sleep or work at this time, it’s not easy. It seems like the salsa band is playing at your window.
There are also karaoke nights at the bar below the hotel, which gets quite busy.
People having drinks and singing along. It can get quite noisy.
If you work during the day or morning, then finish early, it may be ok.
There is a restaurant and bar on the other side of the road, and a restaurant and bar below the hotel.
There is also surf board rentals and some little shops and restaurants near by.
The beaches at Sayulita have lots of little huts set up where you can get a massage, a drink, rent a surfboard and more.
So, you can see the huts and the beach from a balcony or the roof top terrace.
It is at the end of a little side street on the corner.
Although, there are really no big streets in Sayulita.
You can definitely chill in the mornings and afternoons here. It’s quiet in the mornings.
The evenings and night time, it can be challenging if you wanted to go to bed early because you had an early flight the next day or something.
I spent sometime chatting and working on the terrace which was nice and relaxing!
You can also chill and watch television there, mostly Spanish channels, but a couple English ones too!
Yep! Definitely outside and around of the hotel.
The rooftop terrace closes at 10:00pm and they don’t allow for loud speakers or parties there. However, if you’re staying in the penthouse, then you can access the rooftop terrace at any hour.
But, if you’re looking to party, just walk down the stairs.
You will see many places to enjoy within a 30 second walk, as well as a 2 minute walk!
Location, beach, rooftop terrace, close to downtown.
No need for taxis, you can walk back to your hotel and downtown.
It’s small, no huge conventions or groups here.
The access to the fridge for everyone is a bonus, if you have a room that doesn’t have a fridge in it.
Each room has a fan and air conditioning, sometimes some hotels in Mexico will only have a fan or you have to pay extra to use the air conditioner. *Something to note when you’re booking your hotel in Mexico.
My favourite part of the hotel was the rooftop terrace.
Yes! Besides the ocean, surfing, and beach time, you can also check out the many restaurants, bars and shops too!
There are different tours including jungle hikes and much more!
