Looking for a beach in Huatulco?

Maybe you’re in Huatulco now, or you’re headed there.

There were 2 beaches in Huatulco that I really enjoyed while I was there in Oaxaca, Mexico.  I would like to share these beaches with you!

These 2 beaches in Huatulco are very different from each other!

Don’t forget these Top 9 things to bring to the beach!

Playa La Entrega

This beach is chill.  There are some restaurants pushed back further on the beach here.  You can breakfast, lunch or a drink there.

This is not a party beach, it’s more about nature here.

Although it can get quite busy on the weekends with locals, so I would recommend arriving early to get a great spot!

This is a protected beach and has been since 1998.

The water is amazing here!  In the morning, you can see vultures lurking around the beach, but as the day morning continues and people mingle onto the beach they clear away.

Snorkelling

This is 100% the place to come if you like snorkelling and exploring the coral reef.

I really recommend snorkelling at Playa La Entrega!

The water is so clear that you can see your feet and little fish swimming around while you stand or swim in the ocean.

There are a few different small businesses there that offer you a snorkelling experiences at Playa Entrega.

I work recommend wearing water shoes, I think, it’s a must if you’re going snorkelling.  The water is very shallow in spots.

There is a lot of coral reef at this beach, so for your safety, it’s best to wear the water shoes, so you don’t cut your feet while you’re snorkelling.

There are different companies that offer snorkelling gear at this beach.  They also offer lockers with a key that you keep on your wrist for 50 pesos.

You get a life jacket when you snorkel because the water is not deep and the coral reef is directly below you, so you must stay floating at the top of the water so that you don’t hurt yourself or damage the coral reef.

The water is incredibly clear and very calm.  The waves are not strong, like the waves in Puerto Escondido beaches. You can see so many fish just looking down. You can clearly see your feet on the sand in the water.

The marine life is incredible!

You may see turtles, manta rays, a large variety of colourful fish, star fish and much more!

Nature

I actually saw a little crab go by me as I was in swimming in the water by the shore, as well as a variety of fish.

There are hills surrounding the beach and trees.  It is not a very big beach, so it has a more intimate feel, there is a spot on the side that is for boats to come to shore.  There is a life guard on duty that keeps people clear of the boat launch area.

I asked if there are jellyfish there, after getting stung by a type of jellyfish at a different beach, I wanted to know!

Nope, there aren’t any jellyfish there as it’s not as opened as some other beaches.

Even the birds are very interesting here. There is a bird called a chachalaca, which is like a flying chicken-type of bird that makes this loud noise. There are also some very beautifully coloured birds in the area!

If you’re looking to be:

  • in awe of nature
  • enjoy a chill beautiful day on the beach
  • go snorkelling
  • rent snorkelling equipment
  • have some food or drinks

then Playa La Entrega is your beach in Huatulco!

Above is an interactive map so that you can see where the beaches, and you can find a hotel that you like close to the beach!

Playa Santa Cruz

I recommend this beach if you would like water that is a little deeper than Playa La Entrega.

I am not aware of any coral reef at this beach and no one offered me to snorkel at this beach.

The waves are also calm here usually.

You can go out on a boat tour or ride from this beach.

There is a certain area that they have for boats to drop people off.

There also have people that come by with a banana boat and offer you and your group to go for a ride.

Street with shops by Playa Santa Cruz

This beach has little shops and mini little plazas or markets on the streets leading up to the beach.

It’s called La Crucecita.  There is a square with a cute cafe and benches to relax on.

You can get any water accessories, clothing, floaties etc., plus so much more!

Restaurants

There is a strip of beach front restaurants that you can enjoy.  Most have beach front tables with umbrellas, as well as some further back under a roof.

Shells

If you love searching the shoreline for beautiful rocks and shells then you will be in your glory at both of these beaches!

I collected so many beautiful and interesting shells!

I even found a whole bunch of quohag shells, which are the type of shells used to make Wampum beads for the traditional Wampum belts made my First Nations People in Canada.

I also found a piece of abalone!

They both sound so beautiful, I’d probably pick the first beach as it’s more relaxed!!!!
